“Corporate Liability in Transnational Space”: Friday 18th June a seminar at the Sant’Anna School. Multinationals are responsible for the activities they carry out on a global scale, in country other than home country

If a multinational causes damage or commits crimes in the countries where it operates, how and to what extent is it liable? The Criminal Justice research group at Dirpolis Institute (Law, Politics and Development) of the Sant'Anna School organized for Friday 18 June, starting at 11.00 am, the seminar “Corporate Liability in Transnational Space”. To ensure participation, the seminar will be held in presence, in the Aula Magna of the Sant'Anna School, and online, on Cisco Webex platform and live streaming on the Youtube Channel (Sant’Anna Channel).

The issue of liability of transnational corporations has received particular attention in recent years, also in public opinion. This is the case of multinational corporation, leader in oil & gas sector , called to answer before home country’s court in relation to damages deriving from the activity carried out in territorial contexts extremely far from home country. In other cases, again discussed before national courts (US, UK, Holland), multinational companies have been sentenced to pay damages for lack of due diligence on subsidiaries operating in foreign territory.

The seminar will be opened by the welcome greetings by Sabina Nuti, rector of the Sant’Anna School, and Guido Stampanoni Bassi, director of the online journal Giurisprudenza penale Web; it is introduced by Gaetana Morgante, director of Dirpolis Institute (Institute of Law, Politics and Development) of the Sant’Anna School and Full Professor of Ccriminal Law at Sant’Anna School. Speakers are Tullio Padovani, Emeritus Professor of Criminal Law and Accademico dei Lincei; Doreen Lustig, Associate Professor at the University of Tel Aviv; Stefano Manacorda, Full Professor of Criminal Law at University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli; Ombretta Di Giovine, Full Professor of Criminal Law at University of Foggia); Paolo Bruno, Judge and Counsel for Justice and Internal Affairs at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union; Vincenzo Mongillo, Full Professor of Criminal Law at UniTelma Sapienza University of Rome; Angelo jr Golia, Researcher at the Max Planck Institute; Giuseppe Di Vetta, Research Fellow in criminal law at Sant’Anna School.
